Remember this mirror that I found earlier this summer?? It has such a fun shape that I absolutely had to bring it home with me. Life has been pretty crazy lately and I finally got around to trying to find a new home for it.
I love it, but I struggled to get inspired with where to put it. It is way too big for our mantels, so those were immediately out.
It set in our entryway for a few weeks as I contemplated hanging on the wall. When I finally decided to hang it, I immediately heard….you’re going to need to find studs for that thing, 2 which means your mirror is not going to be centered the way you want it. What a buzz kill! The wall in the entry is between two doors and not very wide, so the odds that the studs wouldn’t align perfectly were pretty good. I hate it when he’s right!
I am sure that I could have tried a different wall, but it is pretty heavy which means someone would more than likely think we need to use ginormous nails or screws and I would end up with mammoth holes in the wall.
Rather than hanging it, I could set it against the wall on the floor or put it on a sideboard or table of some kind. I wish I had a fun sideboard or buffet to use…something with some length would be perfect. The alternative option is a small table I have in an open spot where we tore out a room in the basement. I figured it was worth giving it a shot.
The mirror looked ridiculous! It was way too big for the dinky little table. After messing around with a few other ideas and not loving any of them, I decided to give the mirror another try.
I knew the mirror by itself looked out of proportion on the table, but I wanted to see how it would look if I layered it with other pieces. Layers can transform the overall look of the design and are a fun way to showcase more of your favorite pieces. I am a big fan of layers and textures.
This ended up being the perfect color scheme for fall, kind of an earthy vibe. Lots of nature in this one. Get creative with what you can find around you.
I am not sure how I feel about it, but it works for now. After all, it’s only a few weeks until we break out the Christmas decorations.
Sometimes you just have to go with it and give it a try. Simple and imperfectly perfect is a good thing!
I would love to hear your thoughts. Let me know how you feel about this look.
As always, thanks for stopping by the Freckled Wren!
