We get a real Christmas tree every year. While there is so much I love about this, there is the downside of the mess that comes with it. For the last several years we’ve gotten a flocked tree; so pretty, but with the after holiday tear down, you end up with white dust everywhere, literally everywhere! I love all the holiday decorations and how they make the house feel, but when it’s over I am ready to clean and declutter. This time of year inspires me to find simple storage solutions to declutter and hide all our useless junk!
The first few months of the new year spark storage and furniture sales across all our favorite places. Now is a great time to grab a few new pieces to help give a fresh clean start to the new year.
Entryway: There is something about this space that makes it the perfect drop zone. However, since it’s the space that your guests immediately see when they walk into your home, shoes, backpacks, and coats don’t always vibe with the first impression you’re wanting. Look for storage pieces like console tables where you can use tall baskets or bins as catch alls. I personally prefer tables that don’t have a bottom bar or shelf. This allows for space to use larger baskets, when stashing is a must. If your space permits, consider adding a sideboard to stuff and shut.

Living Room: Consider furniture pieces that offer great hiding spots for things that need to be handy, but you don’t always want out on display. Baskets are perfect for stashing remotes, blankets, books, or things like gaming devices and other electronics. Consider coffee or side tables with drawers for additional storage. Storage ottomans are another great dual purpose choice. Modular media storage with cubbies and cabinets are great pieces for electronic storage, plus you get the added bonus of additional decor display space.
Bedroom: The bedroom is designed to be the most relaxing, tranquil spot in your home, but when it’s filled with clutter and disorganization, it immediately triggers stress. Find a home for everything by incorporating nightstands with storage options, dressers with deep drawers, and closet organization systems. Even with a small closet there are simple pieces like shoe racks and clear bins that make for easy organization of frequently used pieces.
Kitchen: Regardless of the amount of storage space you have it’s easy to lose track of what’s inside your pantry, cabinets, or drawers. Using drawer organizers and clear bins are great organization tools to help keep everything in its place. While I LOVE the look of a super organized pretty pantry, buying all these bins and baskets can get expensive. I try to grab these in phases, a little at a time.
While decluttering is the goal, it’s such a mental energizer when things are organized. Don’t stress about the stuff or add pieces that are impossible to manage! With simple changes you can declutter and destress your home. Take it one space at a time.
I am so glad you’re here!
