Hey there! Thanks for checking out the Freckled Wren! Let me tell you about how we ended up here.
I spent most of my life growing up in Nebraska – GO HUSKERS. College and a job took me out of state, but somehow I found my way back.
Our family recently made the move from the Cornhusker state to Wisconsin.
Wisconsin surprised me – it was much prettier than I expected. The trees, lakes, old farms, silos and barns all have so much character – love them! One of my favorite things are the roadside stands with apples, vegies, fruits, pumpkins, flowers – adorable! Most use the honor system….ahhh, so many good people in the world!
Before the move we lived in a small town in Western Nebraska near the Colorado border where is it wasn’t unusual to have snow, rain and wind all in the same day, so the tales of Wisconsin winters didn’t really scare me. It couldn’t be any worse, right?
Not sure what I was thinking, but I was clearly WRONG! This winter the entire state had record lows and snowfalls. Windchills were -50 below and most areas had over 70 inches of snow! Did I say I thought this place was pretty?
Doubting me……check out this video.
That’s cold!
When winter finally turned to Spring, the rain didn’t stop. I rained everyday!
I am pretty sure we JINXED the entire state when we moved here! Seems like an unlikely coincidence that all the unusual weather happened AFTER we arrived…..hmmm. All you Wisconsinites – no need to thank us!
Moving is stressful! Not just leaving family and friends, but house hunting! We had lived in the same town for over 13 years making it the only place our kids really knew. It was challenging trying to sell our current house and find a new one while we were in two different places. That and the fact that we were on two different pages. Ryan wanted brand new, move in ready house while I was on the hunt for a “bargain” with potential.
Needless to say, we ultimately landed with a compromise. We stumbled on a place that didn’t need a complete overhaul, but definitely some updating to make it ours. It was not love at first. It took a little coaxing (the girls hated it!) and a lot of creativity. Regardless, we rolled up our sleeves and began our adventure in a new place, new school and fixing up a new place to make our home.
