It’s hard to believe the weather is changing and I keep hearing the dreaded “s” word……snow! Bite your tongue! The forecast for the weekend sounds cold, wet and down right dreary! It’s been a long week which makes it the perfect weekend to find a comfy couch, big blanket, and binge watch movies.
I am suckering you into my web of laziness! I created a list of some of the greatest iconic movies of all time. Grab your fuzzy socks, throw your hair up in a banana clip, grab a stash of your favorite junk food and get settled in.
These are in no special order. It would be impossible for me to rank them, they are all so amazing!
I included the links for easy ordering, just click on the photos…you need them all for your library!
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Ferris is the master! How can you not fall in love with him….he’s adorable, funny, smart (the stereo, brilliant!) and get’s away with everything. You won’t be able to get the song Danke Schoen out of your head for days. He’s a legend! So good!
My fav’s:
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?
Grace, Mr. Rooney’s Secretary – I love everything about her, her hair, voice and the sound she makes walking down the hall. Makes me laugh just thinking about it.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss something.”
The Princess Bride
Oh sweet Westley, “as you wish” and the Dread Pirate Roberts. How do you not fall in love with the story of Princess Buttercup, Fezzik, Inigo Montoya and Prince Humperdinck. It has everything pirates, Rodents of Unusual Size, shrieking Eels, and is the sweetest story about True Love!
“Hello, My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
Can’t Buy Me Love
Ronald Miller is by far the hottest lawn boy ever! There have been so many remakes of this movie, but none as good as this one. It’s full of life lessons, but by far the best one is, always hire a hot lawn boy. You never know what might happen.
In the end when Ronny and Cindy ride off together on his lawnmower – how many of you secretly imagined that was you.
The African Anteater Ritual – you know you did this!
“I don’t care too much for money, for money can’t buy me love.” The Beatles
16 Candles
Jake Ryan……ahhh, no words! I don’t think I could pick just one favorite character…how do you choose between Jake, Farmer Ted, Long Duk Dong and the Grandparents. Sweet sixteen, a hot crush. I love everything about this movie, so great!
My Fav’s:
Farmer Ted singing “you say it’s your birthday, it’s my birthday too” to Samantha in the car
“Underpants…..Girl’s Underpants”
“the Donger needs food”
Birthday cake on the table – who does that, so sweet
Christmas Vacation
I don’t think there is anything that I even need to say for this one! Clark, Uncle Eddie, the RV – all the best! The Griswald’s are icons, legends and your all American family…….just like ours! I have seen this one a million times and it still makes me laugh. Hands down, one of the best movies of all time.
Uncle Eddie…his RV, robe, hat, moose mug, “You serious Clark”
“And why is the carpet all wet, Todd? I don’t know Margo!”
“It’s a Beaut Clark”
I even have the theme song and Mele Kalikimaka on my playlist!
The Man in the Moon
This one is a tear jerker, but so good! Reese Witherspoon was just a baby. It isn’t as well known as the others, but trust me once you see it you will love it! It’s about growing up, crushing and falling in love. It’s a classic.
The Breakfast Club
A brain, an athlete, a princess, a basket case and a criminal. So great! The nerdy mom in me (remember my MBTI is a Feeler) loves the story and the message in this one, it is just a great movie!
Love the lipstick trick and the purse.
“Hey, Hey, Hey…..don’t you, forget about me”, Simple Minds
Stand By Me
River Phoenix, he is so adorable! This one is such a great story about friendship and true friends. sigh…
Vern is my favorite….he brings the comb! Always thinking, I love it.
“If you could have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? That’s easy. Pez. Cherry flavor Pez. No question about it.”
The Sandlot
Benny “the Jet” Rodriguez, Squints, Ham, Yeah-Yeah, Scotty, Bertram and Hercules. James Earl Jones, he is one of the greats. This movie has some of the best sarcasm and punchy quotes. Every little boy and baseball lover should own this one, for sure.
“Remember kid, there’s heroes and there’s legends. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart, kid, and you’ll never go wrong.”
“FOR.EV.VER”
“Your killing me smalls”
“You play ball like a girl”
Footloose
Just about every girl was crushing on Kevin Bacon and this movie. We all wished we could dance like him. Growing up in a small town this movie was 100% relatable. The soundtrack was awesome…..we were jamming to our cassette tape.
“Kick off the Sunday shoes. Please, Louise, pull me off my knees. Jack, get back, come on before we crack. Lose your blues, everybody cut Footloose.”
I am sure I have left off some other iconic classics! St. Elmo’s Fire, Pretty in Pink, Better Off Dead, Heathers, Top Gun, ET, basically any John Hughes film falls into this category, they are all so funny. I could go on and on.
I have to confess that as I was looking at these movies and I kept seeing the 20 & 25 year anniversary editions it was kind of depressing! Then I remembered, wait I was super little when these first came out, so there is no way I am really that old! Ha!
These are heartwarming, feel good movies, something we all need more of in our lives.
The most iconic movies of all time, the best of the best, must see classics! What’s on your fav list?
See you on the couch!
